All Aboard for a Trip Back in Time! 🚂
Get ready for an exciting journey into Simi Valley’s railroad history with our field trip to the Santa Susana Railroad and Train Depot on Monday, December 15th!
We’ll arrive at 10:00 a.m. for a guided tour led by the Depot’s friendly docents, lasting about an hour (plan for about 90 minutes total for the full experience).
Here’s a peek at what we’ll discover:
🚉 The Waiting Room
Step into the past and learn how the Depot was moved from its original spot on Los Angeles Avenue. You’ll hear fascinating stories about Simi Valley’s early days and see real Southern Pacific lanterns, locks, and movie memorabilia from Corriganville Ranch!
📜 The Stationmaster’s Office
Find out how trains were directed before cell phones or radios even existed! Curt, our guide, will share how stationmasters managed train traffic and handled the all-important mail service that kept towns connected.
🏠 The Upstairs Apartment
Travel back to the 1940s as we visit the Depot’s recreated living quarters—set up just as they might have been when the Sims family, the last station agents to live there, called it home.
🚂 The Train Room
Watch miniature trains chug across bridges and through tunnels on a detailed HO-scale model layout that delights train lovers of all ages!
💵 Optional Donation: A $5 per person contribution is kindly suggested to support the Santa Susana Depot and their wonderful volunteer docents—your generosity helps keep this local history alive!
🚗 Parking Tip: Limited parking is available next to the Depot. Additional parking can be found just down the road at Santa Susana Park. (6503 Katherine Rd, Simi Valley, CA 93063)
